Sussex Goes 2-2 in Four Game Weekend

On Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, the Sussex baseball team split with Luzerne County Community College and Rowan College at Burlington County, respectively, to bring their overall record to 15-13 and their Region XIX record to 3-3.

In game 1 on Friday, Anthony Mellilo had a short start for Sussex, pitching only 2 innings and giving up 5 runs. Sean Kelemen pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 runs, while Shaun Rittweger finshed the game for Sussex giving up only 2 runs. Wataru Kazama hit a 3 run homerun in the 2nd inning, which was his 3rd homerun of the year. Sussex lost to Luzerne 13-4.

In game 2, a fired up Sussex took full control of the game. Trevor Risdon threw a complete game shutout, giving up only 4 hits and had 6 strikeouts. Sussex found their bats and drove in 11 runs to defeat Luzerne 11-0. Hitting leaders in game 2 were Wataru Kazama (1-3, 2 runs scored), Aldo Vallorosi (2-5, 1 run scored), Jean Lagreca (2-4, 1 run scored, double), Nicloas Dore (1-3, double, 1 run scored), and Mongeon Kim (1-2, 2 runs scored, triple, 2 RBI's).

In game 1 on Saturday against RCBC, Sussex started off strong with Edgardo Matute pitching 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits. Trevor Risdon got the win after coming into a tied ball game and he finished out the game giving up only 1 run. There was late drama in the bottom of the 7th with Sussex down by 1 run.  Bobby Fehr, who came into the game for Johnny Franco, had a base hit up the middle, with Mongeon Kim adding another base hit right after. Dalton DelRosso laid down a sac bunt and then Matt Douma hit a sac fly to center field to tie the game, with Bobby Fehr scoring and Mongeon Kim moving to third. The next two batters were intentionally walked to load the bases for Tyler Goff. Goff showed excellent patience at the plate to draw a walk and win the game for Sussex.

In game 2, Gustavo Souza pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 10 hits, and striking out 6 Barons. Sussex was held to only 2 runs on 6 hits and lost to RCBC 5-2. Dalton DelRosso (1-2, double) and Johnny Franco (2-3, 1 run scored) led the Skylanders at the plate.
