Sussex Baseball Celebrates 30 Years

The Sussex baseball team celebrated 30 years as a program on Sunday, April 7 while hosting Monroe College JV.  Players from past seasons were invited to attend and players from the inaugural 1989 season were honored before the game.  Mike Sarapuchiello, who was a member of the 1989 team, threw the first pitch to his son Derek Sarapuchiello, who currently plays for the Skylanders.  The 1989 team finished their first season with a 5-8 record with a team batting average of .304.  Since the program's inception, the Skylanders have played in the NJCAA Region XIX Final Four 9 times and have competed in the region final 6 times.

Sussex defeated Monroe College JV in both games by scores of 15-5 and 9-3.  Derek Sarapuchiello went 3/4 with 2 RBI's and a triple, while also pitching 2 innings and striking out 3.
