Sussex Off To A Flying Start

The Sussex baseball team is off to its best start in years after winning all of their games to earn a 17-0 record (5-0 in Region XIX).  The Skylanders have been a hitting machine with a team batting average of .349 and driving in 161 runs in 17 games.  Layton Cuvilier had led the team in batting average with .510 after 49 at bats with 15 RBI's.  Terryn Babcock leads the team in RBI's with 20 and has also hit 3 home runs this season which also leads the team while compiling a batting average of .431.  Logan Kobis leads the team in runs with 24 as well as at bats with 58, and has hit 2 home runs with a .414 batting average.

Sussex have been dominant with pitching as well so far this season.  Tanner MacLean leads the team in innings pitched (21), strikeouts (30), strikeouts per 9 innings (12.86), and ERA (0.86).  Sota Inden isn't far behind with 19 innings pitched, 19 strikeouts, and an ERA of 1.42.  The Skylanders team ERA is 2.87 which is almost 3 times better than their opponents who have earned an ERA of 8.06 while playing Sussex.

Head coach Ramadan Mehmedi is delighted with the start shown by his players saying, "This team has a fight in them that we haven't seen for a while now.  They are fundamentally so good that we are never really out of any game.  We have shown that we can come from behind to win as well as be in control from start to finish in other games."  Asked about if his goals for the season have changed at all, Mehmedi replied, "We are in one game at a time territory right now.  We don't want to look too far ahead, we just concentrate on the next game in front of us and make sure that we keep improving in the areas that we need to."

Up next for Sussex is an away trip to Lehigh Carbon CC on March 29.
