Sussex Defeats SUNY Ulster 74-71
The Sussex County Community College Men's Basketball team defeated SUNY Ulster Senators on Tuesday evening 74-71. The Skylanders and Senators played the game right down to the buzzer. Sussex went ahead of SUNY Ulster with 2 free throws from Jesus Romero to make the score 69-68 Sussex. SUNY Ulster then took the lead 70-69 with a tough shot in the paint with 11 seconds in the game. The Skylanders then ran right back down the court with a strong pass from Jesus Romero to Christian Archer for a layup to make the score 71-70 with 5 seconds to go in the game. The SUNY Ulster Senators made one more attempt to go ahead. Christian Archer intercepted a pass near mid-court and was then fouled. Archer made two free throws to make the final score 74-71.
Christian Archer led Sussex with 24 points and 13 rebounds. PJ Ross had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Nate Akilu contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jesus Romero had a strong game with 7 points and 10 assists. David Forzani ran the offense throughout the night dishing out 5 assists and adding 8 points. Hamadi Martin and Jalil Golden both came off the bench to contribute to the victory. The Skylanders improve to 13-7 on the season and 7-2 at home.
