Sussex splits with Bergen CC in extra innings

The Lady Skylanders split yesterday's games against Bergen CC in extra innings. Game 1 for Sussex was topped off by soph. #7 Kathryn Szatkiewicz with a 4 RBI homerun (grandslam) shot over the fence to put the team up 6-5 in the top of the 6th inning. Rebecca Riley and the defence held off the Bulldogs in 2 more innings to take the win home. Riley pitched a full 7 inning game with no walks, 2 strikeouts and only 9 hits. Fresh. Heather Sutton went 2 for 4 with 2 runs over the plate. 

 

Game 2 saw the same excitement as the skylanders fell 11-10 in extra innings (8 inn.). Madison Stires led off the extra inning with a perfect sac bunt as she moved Szatkiewicz to third. Sutton then hit a fly ball to the center field warning track to allow Szatkiewicz to tag up on the catch to home. Sutton went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and that crucial RBI in the top of the 8th. Second baseman, Taylor Thieme went 3 for 5 with 1 run across the plate and a line drive double. Amanda Ross also went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 4 RBI's. Catcher, Riley Delesky was 2 for 4 with a double and one run across the plate for sussex. Pitchers Rebecca Riley and Brianne Willis both had a 2 run homerun in game 2. Both also only allowed 13 hits in the extra inning loss.
