Hilbert Hits 1,000 Point Milestone

Hilbert Hits 1,000 Point Milestone

The score is 28-28, Sussex and Camden (top ranked in DIII in Region 19) are battling head to head for the lead. After a roaring start from Sussex, coming out strong 11-2, Camden bounced back with a fury to tie the game. The game remained deadlocked, point passing back and forth for point, until, seconds before the end of the half, Hilbert went down, and the crowd went silent. Not only was she just shy of her thousand, but the Skylanders were just shy of a win over the number one ranked team, an imposing feat without their leading scorer and record-breaking all-star.

Thankfully, Brielle Hilbert's injury wasn't limiting, and to a loud crowd and a standing ovation she stepped back into the game in the end of the third, her team now down ten. A few minutes later, scoring a layup over 6 hands, Brielle hit her 1000 point milestone, becoming the first female at Sussex County Community College to achieve that record. Brielle Hilbert has had an incredible career thus far at SCCC - breaking 3 point, single game, and career point records with her incredible scoring ability. She ended the game with 16 points, and led SCCC to bring the game to as close as 5 at the end of the 4th.

Keeley McGregor stepped up with an excellent effort, adding 14 points for the Skylanders. Keeley and Brenley Knakkergaard kept the team afloat during Brielle's absence in the 3rd, scoring 9 together; Brenley chipped in 10 points total for the game. Bryttany Wagner and Hannah Delbury once again put up a serious fight on the defensive end, grabbing double digits in boards, blocking shots and taking charges.

Although Sussex fell short of Camden 48 to 54, the Skylanders are not disappointed today. They are happy to celebrate Brielle's 1,000 point achievement and proud of the fight they put up today. Next time ladies!
