Sussex Wrestling Competes at ESU Open

Sussex Wrestling opened up its season today at the ESU open. Sussex got to compete against division 1, 2, and 3 schools at the open. Freshman Spencer Stewart won his first three matches 4-2, by fall in 48 seconds and 5-3 to make it to the semifinals. In the semis Spencer lost a close match just missing out on the finals. Spencer would go on to take 4th place. Sophmore Taylan Zafis lost his first match, but would go on to win in the wrestle backs. Before losing a close match to close out the day. Sussex wrestling finshed the day 13th out of 25 teams in the field. Coach Burdge had this to say " I think we were the only juco team to take part in this tourtament. It's a tough tourtament and it was a great experience for the guys. To make it out with a place winner is a great feeling. I like to give the Sussex wrestlers an oppurtunity to wrestle in things they wouldn't get a chance to elsewhere."
