Sarni Selected as Sussex Woman of the Year

Gabby Sarni, a sophomore at Sussex County Community College from Stillwater, NJ, has been named SCCC's Woman of the Year and will be honored by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sports at Seton Hall University on February 4, 2018.

A two year starter for the Sussex soccer program, Sarni holds the college record for goals in a season, with 26, and was named to the NJCAA All Region XIX First team twice.  Gabby was also selected as a captain for her second season with Sussex and was named to the All Region XIX Academic Team in 2016 and 2017.  Gabby was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and the Psi Beta National Honor Society for Psychology this year as well.

The National Association of Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) annually recognizes girls and women from every high school and college in the state of New Jersey for their academic and athletic success.  Besides the recipients, this event is attended by parents, family members, friends and coaches, and they are all treated to a luncheon and a Seton Hall women's basketball game.  Each recipient will be recognized with an award at halftime of the game.

"We are delighted that Gabby has been honored with SCCC's Woman  of the Year," said John Kuntz, Associate Dean of Athletics at SCCC. "She has been a hard working player for us since she has been here at Sussex, and has shown great character both on the field and off it in the classroom.  She has really grown as a player, and has consistently excelled with her academics."
