Sussex Defeats RCBC

Sussex Defeats RCBC

The Sussex women's soccer team cooly dispatched Region XIX rivals Rowan College at Burlington County 1-0.  Sussex saw the better of the opportunities during the game, however, could only convert one of their chances due to some shots off target as well as some brave blocks by the RCBC defense.  Maddi Ollington put the Skylanders ahead 24 minutes into the contest with a mazy run that started in her own half, through the Burlington defense that led to a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.  Ollington calmly chipped the keeper to earn the deserved go ahead goal.  That was all Sussex would need, as they kept possession for the majority of the game.  RCBC still provided some threat, however, and Sussex goalkeeper Emily Martinez was called into action to make 3 saves on the day, one of which was a fantastic tip to the crossbar to deny RCBC's Deanna D'Imperio from scoring off a breakaway shortly after Ollington scored.  Sussex controlled the second half with confident possession, limiting Burlington to only one shot in the entire second half, compared to Sussex's 6.

Next up for Sussex is Middlesex at home on September 20 at 4:00pm.
