Sussex Cruises Past Mercer

The Sussex women's soccer team defeated Mercer CC 4-0 yesterday to bring their region record to 2-0. Amber Whenham started the scoring for the Skylanders with the opening goal in the 5th minute off a cross from Kendra Berry. Sussex possessed the ball in Mercer's half for the majority of the game, but couldn't double their lead until the 40th minute when Hayley Merriman picked up a loose ball 35 yards out from goal, spotted the goalkeeper off her line, and chipped it in off the bottom of the crossbar. Sussex went into halftime with the 2-0 lead. After some halftime adjustments, Sussex added another goal 5 minutes into the second half with a fantastic strike from Giovanna Castro. Gianna Santiago then capped off the day with a goal with 10 minutes remaining off a pass from Regan Thiel. Sussex registered 36 shots compared to Mercer's 4.
