Velez Signs for Sussex

Jessenia Velez, from Wantage, NJ, has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to join the women's soccer program at Sussex County Community College.  Velez started as a forward for High Point Regional High School and also competed for their track and field team running various races, including the 400 meter hurdle and 400 meter relay.  Head Coach Frank Vernacchio is delighted with the local forward's decision to come to Sussex and join the soccer program.  "Jessie is a great kid and great player.  She is fast, has an eye for goal, and can play either as a nine or out on the wing.  She really wants to grow as a player and achieve great things here at Sussex, and we can't wait to start working with her."

Jessenia joins a talented 2019 recruiting class and Coach Vernacchio feels that Sussex will be able to challenge for trophies this season.  "Our incoming class is very talented this year, and we have a lot of players who can fit in immediately and compete at the level that we are looking for.  Our returning players have set the bar from last season and are already working well with the freshman.  We are really excited to start this season and challenge for the region and the district."

Velez is planning on earning her Associate's Degree at Sussex before transferring to a 4 year university to pursue a career in Athletic Training or Physical Therapy.
