Sussex Puts 4 Past Nassau

Sussex Puts 4 Past Nassau

The Sussex County Community College women's soccer team defeated the Nassau Lions 4-2 on Saturday in non-region action.  Sussex started the game slowly and were punished 10 minutes in when Nassau took the lead off a spilled ball by Katie Bertoa.  The goal sparked some life in the Skylanders who then equalized with 10 minutes remaining in the half from a great finish from outside the box by Brelyn Cusano.  The tie did not last long, however, with Nassau taking advantage of poor positioning by Sussex to beat the offsides trap and roll a shot past Katie Bertoa just 3 minutes after Cusano's equalizer.  Sussex went into their first half time break of the season down to the opposition.

The second half saw a revitalized Sussex team who took control of the game.  10 minutes into the half, Giovanna Castro turned neatly off of a pass from Milla Jowett and hit a wonder strike into the upper corner to tie the game again for the Skylanders. Less than a minute later, Castro turned into provider setting up a chance for Mackenzie Utter from outside the box who finished calmly hard and low to the keeper's right.  Sussex then put the game to bed with 15 minutes remaining through another goal from Giovanna Castro, this time assisted by Jessenia Velez.

Up next for Sussex is Region XIX opponent Lackawanna College on Thursday at 4:00pm.
