Sussex Soccer Keeps Rolling

The Sussex County Community College women's soccer team won their 7th game in a row on Saturday against NJCAA Region XIX opponent Harcum College, with a final score of 8-1.  The Skylanders took on the Bears on a beautiful, hot day in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania at The Proving Grounds.  Sussex started the scoring almost immediately when Carina Gasparini finished a one-on-one with the goalkeeper after being sent through by Maria Gomes 1 minute and 15 seconds into the match.  The game would tighten up after that with Sussex finding it difficult to create opportunities, and with Harcum creating some of their own.  In the 27th minute, Giovanna Castro doubled the lead after Maria Macedo sent her away with a fantastic throughball.  Harcum struck back 4 minutes later, though, off of a fine finish from the outside of the box by Cassidy Hoops. Sussex would add 2 more goals in a 4 minute spell at the 11 minute mark with Giovanna Castro scoring her second after Macedo provided another assist, and Maria Gomes finishing off of a breakaway after Castro turned provider.  Sussex went into the halftime break up 4-1.

The second half started off well with both teams creating opportunities, but Sussex were the first to score 15 minutes in when Brelyn Cusano slotted past Anna Solmonsson after being set up by Carina Gasparini to make it 5-1.  Sussex then took control of the game, dictating play and limiting Harcum to a hanful of half chances.  In the 68th minute Maria Gomes made it 6-1 after a great toe poke finish from outside the box after being sent through by Maria Macedo, who supplied a hat trick of assists.  Charleen Thoene would add to the score line with Sussex's 7th and Naomi Delbury capped off the game with a goal after being assisted by Jessenia Velez.

Next up for Sussex is NJCAA Region XIX rival Essex CC at home on October 1 at 3:30pm.
