Sussex Crowned Region XIX Champs

The Sussex Women's Soccer Team defeated Mercer County Community College 8-3 on Thursday to win their third successive NJCAA Region XIX Championship.  Blaise Vallorosi started off the scoring in the 4th minute when she took advantage of a rebound off the Mercer goalkeeper after a shot from Lotte Klueter.  Goalscorer Vallorosi then turned provider by sending through Carina Gasparini minutes later to double the lead. Sussex then added 3 more goals before half-time to get the well earned cushion they needed to see out the rest of the game.  Goals were scored by Blaise Vallorosi (3 goals and 2 assists), Carina Gasparini (1 goal), Lotte Klueter (2 goals), and Sophie Taylor (2 goals and 1 assist).  Mercer added a couple consolation goals late in the game, but the damage had already been done for Sussex to cruise to victory.

After the game, Head Coach Frank Vernacchio was pleased to talk up his players. "We executed our game plan well today and everyone did their part.  To be up 7-0 in a championship game is quite a performance, so the ladies deserve a lot of credit for how they were able to play today.  Everyo9ne on the team, from the starters to each and every substitute played well and earned this championship today."

Next up for Sussex is the NJCAA DII Mid Atlantic District Finals against Howard Community College on Friday, November 5th at 3pm in Baltimore, Maryland.
