The Sussex women's soccer program suffered a late defeat to Mercer County Community College on Wednesday. Sussex opened the scoring through Lotte Kluter who was played in behind by Maria Portas. Mercer leveled 20 minutes later, but two quick fire goals from Lisa Kirwan (unassisted, from a free kick) and Anna Peck (assisted by Jasmine Sawyer) put Sussex ahead 3-1 going into the halftime break. Mercer started the second half on the front foot, however, and scored 3 goals in the first 20 minutes to reclaim the lead. Sussex missed a couple of opportunities throughout the second half to try and take the victory, but Mercer were able to see out the result.
Next up for Sussex is the Dragon Invitational at Howard Community College where they will face CCBC-Essex and Howard CC.
