Sussex Sweep Dragon Invitational

Sussex Sweep Dragon Invitational

The Sussex women's soccer program returned home with two well earned victories from this past weekend.  Sussex defeated CCBC-Essex in a close contest that needed a last minute winner from Anna Peck.  Sussex started on the front foot opening the scoring with Anna Torppey (assisted by Pia-Laura Wisnewski) converting a cross from close range.  Just before the break, Sussex doubled their lead with Lotte Kluter coolly finishing a great team move after being sent through by Sophie Taylor.  CCBC-Essex got one right back off the kickoff, however, with Kylie Staubitz tapping into an open net after Kayla Willis drove through the sussex defense.  Essex would then tie the game in the 61st minute through Allison Wysong.  As the game looked to be heading into overtime, Anna Peck drove into the box after a quick throw-in and beat the goalkeeper at her near post with 44 seconds remaining in the game to win the game for Sussex.

On Sunday, Sussex then faced off against Howard Community College and imposed themselves in a 7-0 win.  Sussex continued to bring the fight that earned them their victory the previous day and spent long periods controlling possession in the Dragon's half.  Sophie Taylor returned to the score-sheet with a hat trick and one assist, while Lotte Kluter stayed hot with another 2 goals added to her already prolific season.  Anna Peck chipped in another gaol and an assist as well as Pia-Laura Wisnewski scoring the 7th and final goal for Sussex, and Izzy Bricheno and Maria Portas claiming and assist each.

Next up for Sussex is an away trip to Union County College on Tuesday, September 21.
