The Sussex women's soccer program won the NJCAA Region XIX Championship for Division II this past saturday against Mercer CCC by a score of 4-1. It is the 4th Region Title since 2015 and the third consecutive championship that they have won. Sussex started the scoring after Anna Peck scored from an assist by Lotte Klueter, and then doubled their lead minutes later after Nicole Mares headed into the top corner off of a corner set piece taken by Anna Peck. Mercer cut the deficit shortly after half time but then Pia-Laura Wisnewski scored from outside the penalty area to bring the lead to 3-1. Nicole Mares then put the game to bed with a thumping volley from 20 yards out.
Nicole Mares was awarded with the Offensive MVP for the game and Lisa Kirwan for the Defensive MVP after fantastic displays at both ends of the field. Sussex will now travel to Maryland to face off against CCBC-Essex in the NJCAA East District Final with the winner punching a ticket to Tucson, Arizona for the NJCAA National Tournament.
