Sussex SAAC Holds First Meeting of 2019

The Sussex County Community College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C), resumed its bi-monthly meetings last week. The Sussex Athletic Department formed the committee back in November, 2018, with its purpose to represent and articulate the broad and diverse interests, opinions, and concerns of student-athletes to Athletic Department Administrators, and to encourage unity, common purpose, and camaraderie between teams and among all athletes in the program. During the meeting, an executive board was established with student athletes nominating, and then voting in, candidates for the positions of President, Vice President, and Treasurer.  Amanda Maxwell (Softball) was voted to the position of President, while Brelyn Cusano (women's soccer) and Dominique Accetta (Softball) earned the votes for Vice President and Treasurer, respectively.

In addition to the establishment of the Executive Board, student athletes also formed sub committees within the SAAC that would focus on public relations/social media, fundraising events, and campus connections.  In addition to the main purpose of the SAAC, the student-athlete members of the committee want to take more initiative to bridge the gap between athletics and the rest of campus.  Newly appointed SAAC President, Amanda Maxwell, is excited about the possibilities of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  "We are really excited to be working on so many projects and to get more involved with our campus.  We have some really good things planned that can benefit both the Athletic Department, as well as, the rest of the student population here.  Being a student-athlete is more than just practicing technique and competing in games, it's about making us better and helping the community as a whole."
