Sussex Clinches Conference Title

The Sussex County Community College women's soccer team clinched the Garden State Athletic Conference Title yesterday with a 10-0 win over cross-town rivals County College of Morris.  It's the program's second conference title, the first of which was won in 2008.  Sussex started the game with a high intensity and took the lead within the first minute of play. Jessenia Velez opened the scoring after winning possession high up the field, dribbling on goal, and slotting past the keeper.  4 minutes later, she would double the lead for Sussex with a shot to the upper corner from an impossible angle outside of the penalty box.  Sussex would add 3 more goals before the half with Maria Gomes, Giovanna Castro, and Brelyn Cusano all adding to the scoresheet.

After the break, Sussex added to their lead with goals from Maria Gomes (her second of the game), Mackenzie Utter, Naomi Delbury, Giovanna Castro, and Jessenia Velez, who would complete her hat trick in the 58th minute.  Olivia Hudson and Amber Whenham both provided an assist each, and Maria Macedo added 3 assists of her own.

Next up for Sussex is an away trip to Brookdale, who is ranked 6th in the nation for NJCAA DIII, on October 22 at 3:30pm.
