Sussex Advances to Region Final After Memorable Mental Health Awareness Game

The Sussex County Community College women's soccer team defeated Rowan College at Burlington County 2-0 in the NJCAA Region XIX Semi-Final.  This will be the 4th consectutive season that Sussex has entered the region championship game.  Before kickoff, both teams wore matching shirts to help spread awareness toward mental health and a pregame speech was given by SCCC's personal counselor and academic advisor Alyssa Hoekstra.  Assistant coach Mike Rath was pleased with how the pregame ceremony unfolded stating, "We are really happy and proud to be a part of something like this.  Mental health is something that not many people talk about and are aware of, so we hope that doing something like this can help, at least in a small way, bring more attention to it.  We want to thank Kathleen [DeLitta] and her program for supporting this, as well as Alyssa for helping us put this together.  If we can help start the conversation about mental health and how to aid those who are struggling with it, maybe we can start to make a difference."

Giovanna Castro scored 2 goals for the Skylanders to bring her season total to 25.  Next up is the NJCAA DI Women's Region XIX Final at Temple University against defending champions Essex County College on November 2.
