SCCC Wrestling competes at National Tourtament

Despite being a brand new program Sussex Wrestling was one of only three NJ Junior College programs to compete at the NJCAA Wrestling National Tourtament held in Council Bluffs Iowa. SCCC bought their 197 pounder Taylan Zafis to compete in the tourtament. Taylan went 0-2 at the tournament but looks to learn and improve from the experience. Coach Burdge had these comments "Nationals was a learning experience for the both of us today. We went 0-2 for the day ,but Taylan showed a lot of heart! It was definitely a weird year with Covid this year as we were only able to get two exhibition matches in prior. Despite this having worked with Taylan since September and having seen the work he's put in and the improvements he made.I believe he definitely earned his way here. Taylan showed that he's capable of hanging with the best and I'm excited to see his future improvements in life.Being this is my first year as a head coach Taylan has definitely set the bar high as for what I'm looking for in athletes moving forward. His hard work and dedication towards achieving his goals despite every possible road block being put in front of him this year, has been a true inspiration and he has truly earned my respect. I'll finish by saying if you want a chance to compete at the national level despite a pandemic come to Sussex!
