The core of S.A.A.C continues to shed Hope.

The core of S.A.A.C continues to shed Hope.

As told by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, Chloe Bellerby.

"This year we (S.A.A.C) set out to make a difference on campus, we wanted to make mental health a priority – not just for the athletic department but for the entire SCCC community. In just two months we managed to secure a space on campus for a 'wellness room', bring a new Active Mind chapter on campus and work together with Degree Up and Atlantic Health to plan and organize the biggest project of the semester... a Walkathon to raise money for a newly created Emergency Student Mental Health Fund, for those students that need support but cannot afford it.

Given the circumstances, what we managed to achieve in such a short space of time has been incredible. I was truly blessed to be the President of S.A.A.C this year. To be able to work along side some incredibly determined, motivated and inspirational athletes meant everything to me. I enjoyed the extra hours outside of school, working together on different ideas and projects. Also a special thanks to Olivia Hudson as vice president and Deon Waldmeier as treasurer. I honestly think that as a human being, if you can do something to impact another person's life every single day, then that is the greatest accomplishment you can achieve and I think that is exactly what this year's S.A.A.C team has managed to do. It takes a group of special people, including the coaches and everyone else involved to achieve what we have. We, as athletes have an obligation to leave the athletic department better than how we found it for those coming in and returning, the next generation of S.A.A.C members have a platform to build upon. I am truly excited to see the new committee push this initiative to the next level, and how they will continue to make a difference."
