Sussex Wins Home Opener vs Harford

The Sussex men's soccer team won a 6 goal thriller on Friday against Harford CC (MD) in the heavy rain 4-2.  Harford opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a goal by Ryan Dean.  Play between the two teams remained balanced with both teams getting chances to score, however, Harford went into halftime with the 1-0 lead.  The second half saw 5 goals scored by both teams.  Sussex tied the game with a goal by Deon Waldmeier from a Nik Polizos corner, and almost immediately after the resulting kickoff, Pat Kowal smashed home a 35 yard strike off the bottom of the crossbar to give Sussex the lead.  Hardford responded with an equalizer in the 67th minute off a set piece of their own.  During the goal celebration, however, a Harford player received a straight red card for unsporting behavior and Harford were forced to play a man down.  Sussex capitalized on the man advantage and added two more goals late in the half.  Jefferson Argandona placed a calm finish into the net with a one-on-one with the goalkeeper off a through ball from Deon Waldmeier, and then  Deon added a second assist by splitting the Harford defense with a fantastic pass to Ekin Arisoy who slotted home to make it 4-2 with 7 minutes remaining.

Next up for the Skylanders is arch rival County College of Morris on Tuesday, September 4th at 4:00pm.
