Sussex Edges Past Morris

Sussex Edges Past Morris

The Sussex men's soccer team left it late against region rivals County College of Morris, but earned the 3-2 victory with a game winning goal by Ekin Arisoy in the last 5 minutes.  Sussex opened the scoring when Ekin Arisoy was taken down in the box midway into the first half.  Arisoy then took the resulting penalty kick to put the Skylanders ahead.  Minutes before halftime, though, Morris scored through a goal by Mike Lauria who was on a one-on-one with Sussex goalkeeper Bailey Caller.  The sides went into the break tied at 1-1.  In the second half, the deadlock was broken with 10 minutes remaining.  Ulissess Rodrigues calmly finished off a set piece driven in by Pat Kowal to put Sussex in the lead. What should have been the game winner was canceled out a minute later when Mike Lauria took advantage off of a mistake from the back and leveled the game for Morris. With minutes remaining in the contest, Sussex worked the ball down the right hand side, after good combination play, and found Nik Polizos who supplied a fantastic early cross for Ekin Arisoy to put away, and seal the game for the Skylanders.

Next up for Sussex is SUNY Orange on September 6 at 3:30pm.
