Sussex drop to Nationally Ranked Camden

The Sussex Men's Soccer team travelled down to Camden County this past week to play against a tough opponent on the road. The score was tied at half time and Coach Vernacchio said, "At half time we really were pleased with how our team was performing. We were staying disciplined on defense, which is something you have to do against any nationally ranked team. We were looking to come out in the second half and start taking some more risks going forward." With fifteen minutes left in the game, Sussex committed a foul right outside their 18 yard box. Tobias Rawson Paz, from Camden, took a free kick that couldn't have been hit any better, right into the upper 90. With Camden leading 1-0 into the last ten minutes of the game, Coach Vernacchio made some changes to get more offense going. Vernacchio said, "We had to make a push here at the end to try and send the game into overtime. We had a few chances at the end, but unfortunately we couldn't put one away". Camden countered with 2 minutes left in the game to put the game away with one more goal. Coach Vernacchio said at the end, "I was proud of how the boys played. We hung in there with them and competed against the number 4 team in the Nation. If we are able to tie that game up anything could have happened in overtime. Even though we did not get the result, we grew tremendously as a team and look forward to hopefully having another opportunity to compete against Camden again." The Sussex Men's Soccer team will play Middlesex County College on Saturday away.
