Sussex Men's Soccer Top CCRI 2-0

The Sussex Men's Soccer team traveled up to Rhode Island this weekend to face off against the Division I Knights. The game was heavily controlled by the Skylander's early on and you could get a sense that it was only a matter of time before they were going to put one away. Sussex Skylander Leo Andre opened up the scoring with a ball from Cameron Wood, which put the Skylanders up 1-0 going into the half. Coach Vernacchio said, " I was happy for Leo who has been working his way back from an injury. It was a terrific run that allowed him to get inside of the defender which set him up for a great opportunity to put us in the lead". The Knights came out in the second half putting a lot of pressure on the Sussex defense. Skylander's goalie Hugo Felix came up with a number of key saves to keep the Skylander's in the lead. In the 80th minute, the Skylander's looked to capitalize on a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Bruno Rocha placed a great free kick right in the lower corner to put the Skylanders up 2-0. Coach Vernacchio said, " It was great to see how the boys responded to the pressure they had on them in the second half. It is not easy taking a long trip and getting a key win, especially at this point in the year. We took a big step in our growth this past weekend and I know the team is excited as we finish up the season at home."

Sussex will face off against the Bulldogs of Bergen County Community College this Tuesday at Frankford Park. Kick off is scheduled at 3:00pm
