Sussex Tie Nationally Ranked Camden in Season Opener

The Sussex Men's Soccer program kick started their season with a home opener against Camden County College. Camden, who are coming off this past spring losing in the national final, are now nationally ranked at number 3 to start this season. It was a strong contest against two nationally ranked programs which saw Sussex take the lead in the first half with a goal scored by Skyler Hanisch. Skyler, who played for Wallkill Valley Regional High School, made a great defensive play to set himself up to score the first goal of the game. Camden later in the game would tie it up buy converting on a penalty kick. As the game went into overtime, Sussex would have its fair share of opportunities to end the game, but just couldn't get one past Camden's keeper. Coach Vernacchio said, "It was a great contest between two teams who are looking at getting back to the national tournament. I thought we had a couple more chances to end the game and felt we probably could have come away with the win. We did do some good things though and of course it is all about our process and what we are looking to accomplish within our play."

The Sussex men's soccer program will face off against Cumberland County College this Saturday, September 11th. Kick off is set to take place on their field at 12:00PM.
