Softball upsets Brookdale in game 2 for the first time since 2009

As pitcher Hailey Langenfeld took her first collegiate win against top opponent Brookdale, it too was Coach Jamie Borger's first win as Head Coach. The upset came late in the game as Sussex was heading into the bottom of the 6th, with daylight slipping away, and a score of 9-Brookdale to 5-Sussex. Langenfeld lead the bottom of the inning off with a single and Freshman Ashley Romano took first on an infield error. Sophomore Gianna Santiago smacked a double for a 0 out, 2 RBI. Dani Bayles hit a single, Sammy Jennings walked to continue the inning and Amanda Ross smacked a 2 run RBI single to tie the game. Freshman Bella Costanza hit a liner single to score Amanda Ross who beat the throw to home.

Coach Borger said, "The energy this team came to play with today was on another level. To see female athletes be so genuinely confident in their play is refreshing. This team is fun, they are talented and they are willing to be open minded for each other. With limited numbers due to injury, they all knew the role they had to play today. Hailey not only pitched both games but she trusted her defense behind her. Plus, Sammy Jennings with the 3 homeruns in 8 at bats is deserving to this hard working, selfless young lady. Win or lose, I was happy to be on our gorgeous field with such a confident team today."
