Carreiro Commits to 2024 Sussex Softball

Announcing the first freshmen recruit for the Division II NJCAA Sussex Softball program of the 2024 season, Giana Carreiro.

Carreiro is a graduate of Wallkill Valley High School, where she was a standout student-athlete. Outside of her softball athletic career, she was a part of the National Art Honor Society, Peer Leaders, Pass it Along, and on the Yearbook Committee. Giana is coming to SCCC as a psychology major looking to help struggling kids who need guidance. She states, "I chose Sussex because of the different opportunities I can achieve here in my academics while furthering my athletic career. I'm looking forward to meeting a great new group of girls and being coached by the great coaching staff too. I'm excited to play softball at the Division II college level!"

Giana would also like to thank her high school coaches, club coaches, Sussex Coaches, and most importantly, her parents for helping her get better and receive opportunities at the sport she's loved her whole life.

Head Coach Jamie Borger states, "The coaching staff and myself are excited to welcome Giana into our family. Her leadership, skills, and outlook on growth as a person is going to make her stand out in this region. Yes, we are moving up a division of play this year but with Giana meshing with our returning players as I know she will....we are in for a fun-filled season of some good softball. Having Giana on the infield and in the lineup will help us reach that championship game series and I'm looking forward to seeing her grow as a person and a player."

Welcome Home, Giana!
