Sussex Triumphs Over #1 Brookdale

Last night, the Skylanders came up with the biggest win of their season and in SCCC Women's Basketball history!

#1 Brookdale, undefeated in the league, came into the game with a region record of 12-0. Sussex entered with a record of 8-6.

Brookdale recently nationally ranked in the top ten of the 90+ NJCAA teams, came out strong against the Skylanders, holding the SCCC women to just 13 points, Sussex down 14 at half.

The SCCC women were not ready to go home yet though, and with a surge of fiece momentum, the women came out on fire in the third, winning the quarter 28 to 9.

Sussex was able to keep their dominance, remaining up with a few minutes to go. Both teams fouled out two starters and both teams fought until the buzzer. Sussex though, went home victorious, rejoicing in a 5 point win over the first place team in their league!

Alyssa Aragona (Pope John XXIII HS) was hot in the second half, hitting key shots to bring SCCC the victory. She led with 27 points. Casey Langenbach's (High Point HS) aggressive play kept the women fired up to keep battling; she followed with 12 points and led in rebounds. Lana Varcadipane (Wallkill Valley HS), in her second debut of the season, had 6 points and 3 blocks. Phoebe Livingston played strong at point, adding a solid 10 assists and 4 points. The entire team put forth an amazing defensive effort, especially Hannah Delbury (Veritas Christian Academy) and Sydney Tantleff (Kittatinny HS), grabbing boards and taking key charges to hold Brookdale off. Delbury also added 4 points.

Great job, SCCC Ladies! Keep up the momentum!
